The Nintendo Wii has raced to another record in the Australian game industry by shifting 200,000 consoles in just 50 weeks since launch. The previous record holder was the Playstation 2 which reached the landmark in 55 weeks. This record is on top of the one held for the 100,000 threshold, which the Wii holds having taken the crown from Microsofts Xbox 360.

Nintendo has just announced the release of a new silicon covering for the Wiimote to aid in gripping it. With all the reports about flying Wiimotes it’s about time they released something to combat it.

Late 2006, EA announced its plans to bring out a version of the popular gaming series ‘The Sims’ for the Wii, and possibly for the DS. But it is only recently they have published a statmennt on it:

As Nintendo had promised, The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been released on the virtual console, and us lucky aussies have got it before the rest. Widely Renowned as the best video game of all time, The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is likely to become one of the best selling games on the virtual console. Originally released in 1998, it was an instant classic selling over 7 million copies being sold worldwide, 5 million of those sold being within six months of the initial release. The Ocarina of time was ported for the gamecube, and released as an extra with the game LOZ: Wind Waker. Many Believe this heavily influenced the amount of copies of Wind Waker sold. It costs 1000 points on the Virtual Console, joining Mario Kart 64 and Super Mario 64 as the only three N64 games.

Finally after whats seems like years of waiting, Nintendo of Australia have released Excite Truck. Excite Truck was a release title in America, but for some unknown reason, Nintendo decided not to release Excite Truck here and in Europe until now. Along with Wario Ware, Excite Truck is sure to be another bestseller for Nintendo in Febuary, mirroring it’s success in America. The controls of the game are simple, you just use the wii-mote as a steering wheel, steering your vehicle and manipulationg the terrain around you.

Today, 25th January, marks the launch of one of the most highly anticipated Wii games so far. WarioWare has been somewhat of a mainstay for Nintendo over several console generations now, the most recent being the DS edition ‘Touched’, one of the games using the stylus and mic on the DS to it’s full capability. Smooth Moves uses the Wiimote in the same fashion and you find yourself using the controller in ways you couldn’t even have imagined.
If you do one thing today, head down to the mall and get WarioWare: Smooth Moves.

Nintendo in conjunction with opera has recently released the Opera browser (still in its beta stages). This has paved a path to digital media on your TV. Orb (www.orb.com) has just furthered its Orb MyCast to include support for the Wii. It lets you access Music, Videos, TV(requires TV card on your PC), Pictures and other documents on your Wii. It service can also be accessed from virtually any other Internet enabled device, (hopefully the DS is supported but this is untested) so if you want to listen to music at work etc. but have not got your iPod you can stream it straight from your home PC. Well if you haven’t checked your Wii in the last few hours then now is the time. Just days after the release of Twilight Princess, sources across the web have begun to leak talk about a new Zelda game for the Nintendo Wii. With the success of Twilight Princess it is no surprise that another game would be coming, but contrary to what you might think this game is not just being thrown together as some sources state the game has been in development for longer than a year.
