Wii ‘Lite’ Confirmed
Marketing has never been Nintendo’s forte, yet this time round we thought they had it right. The Nintendo Wii is one of the most hyped consoles of all time yet Nintendo of America has officially announced that an upgraded Wii–including a DVD player and likely. HD compatibility too–will be available in the second half of 2007.
The surprise of this announcement, comes more in it’s timing than it’s meaning. Nintendo has always been one to release many versions of one console. The Gameboy had Gameboy Pocket, GBA had GBA SP and most recently the DS had DS Lite. We all knew there would be an updated version of the Wii sometime, but why confirm it just before the launch of the first version?
While it is perhaps a little to close to the official launch to cause to much of an uproar, once the initial stock sells out, come January/February time anyone considering buying a Wii will definetly think twice knowing that a souped up version will be available in only a few more months.
