Stream Media from your PC to your Wii
Nintendo in conjunction with opera has recently released the Opera browser (still in its beta stages). This has paved a path to digital media on your TV. Orb (www.orb.com) has just furthered its Orb MyCast to include support for the Wii. It lets you access Music, Videos, TV(requires TV card on your PC), Pictures and other documents on your Wii. It service can also be accessed from virtually any other Internet enabled device, (hopefully the DS is supported but this is untested) so if you want to listen to music at work etc. but have not got your iPod you can stream it straight from your home PC.
“What Nintendo did - offering Internet connectivity on its game console was so simple and easy - yet it tears a big hole into the walled content garden erected by gaming manufacturers,” said Joe Costello, Chairman and CEO of Orb Networks. “Consumers want the freedom to surf the Web while sitting on their sofas but that really just scratches the surface of what is available. People can get any digital content on their home PC, be it videos, music, TV, photos, whatever they want, and watch it on their TV screen without limitations or additional fees, which is what Orb promises and the Wii helps deliver. Nintendo opened the door for millions of gamers to see the power of what the Internet can offer in terms of media freedom, choices and access: other gaming manufacturers should follow suit, and the content providers and programmers should notice.”
Installing Orb is easy, just download their program to your Home PC, and follow the installation instructions. Once orb is installed you will be asked to sign up to mycast.orb.com, this is an easy process and once its done boot up your wii, go to mycast.orb.com, sign in, and away you go.
