Our friends over at IGN have got their mitts on the new Aussie Wii retail console. Perhaps the most interesting part is that the Wii Sports box, is a traditional plastic case, rather than the cheap cardboard one that the US retail package included. Also worth noting is that Wii Play will be available at launch in Australia, whereas in the US they have to wait until January to get get hold of it. Head inside for pics.

Kotaku has reported that people who placed pre-orders on the new Nintendo Wii console at Toys R Us stores across Australia, which were initially inclusive of a free game, will now not be receiving the promised software.

While the American launch of the Nintendo has been and gone, we on the other side of the world are still waiting for the Wii, and could be waiting for a while longer than expected. The shipment of Wii consoles to Australia seems it might be short stacked for the initial release date.

The Nintendo Wii will launch tonight in the US (3 week until Australian release), just two days after the PS3 was released to a somewhat hostile reception. This hostility was not in fact towards the PS3, every single shipped console is now predicted sold, the real violence was amongst those wanting a PS3. Across the whole of the country, the massive shortages of PS3 consoles caused shootings and hospitalizing injuries, all just for a games console, quite ridiculous.

Nintendo has today revealed that the Wii Channels for worldwide weather and news will not be available until December 20th and January 27th respectively. Although this is a minor blow, it certainly won’t affect Australia as much as it will the US who will have to wait over a month to find out tomorrow’s weather.

eBay, the world’s largest online marketplace, has restricted sellers who are pre-selling Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3 order through online auctions. The move now limits each user to 1 auction and the seller must provide proof of their pre-order so that no buyers get caught out in fraudulent sales. A preapproved selection of eBay’s finest however have been deemed above this restriction and are free to sell as many consoles as they like, provided they can prove they will have them in stock on launch.
